Class Attendance & Absence Policy for High School Students
At Clarion Center for the Arts, we fully support and encourage students to be well-rounded individuals who participate in both their school activities and their dance training. We understand that high school is a busy time, and we’re committed to helping our students find a healthy balance between their passions.
Balancing School and Dance Commitments
While we aim to be flexible and accommodating, we ask that students and families approach scheduling conflicts with mutual respect for both school and dance obligations. Dance classes—especially those involving choreography—should be treated with the same level of importance as school practices, rehearsals, and meetings.
In other words:
If a school coach or director asks a student to miss dance for a school event, we expect students to also advocate for occasionally missing a school activity when their presence is essential in dance class.
This ensures that a student’s time and commitment is evenly split between activities, rather than consistently prioritizing one over the other.
Priority Times in Dance
Attendance is especially important during choreography seasons:
Holiday Ballet (November–December)
Spring Dance Recital (March–May)
Missing class during these months may result in falling behind, changes in choreography, or adjustments to performance roles.
Makeup Policy
Students are allowed up to 3 makeup classes per year per enrolled class. Please note:
Makeups must be scheduled in advance through the front desk.
No makeup classes are permitted in May, as we enter the final stages of Recital preparation.
If You Miss a Choreography Class
If a student must miss a class where choreography is taught, they are expected to:
Connect with a classmate before the next class to learn the missed material.
Be prepared and caught up upon returning, so the rest of the class can continue moving forward.
We truly value the dedication our students show both in the studio and beyond. By working together and communicating openly, we can support their growth as artists, teammates, and individuals. Thank you for helping us maintain a positive, balanced, and respectful environment where every student can shine—on stage, at school, and everywhere in between.
